Our Story

and the passsionate people behind it

Banh Mi is the Vietnamese word for bread. In Vietnamese cuisine, banh mi also refers to a type of baguette that serves as a bun for sandwiches filled with savory and fresh flavors. The banh mi was introduced to Vietnam in the mid-19th century, becoming a staple street food in Saigon as early as 1950.

As opposed to the traditional banh mi —which commonly dons an assortment of cold cuts, pate, butter, and fresh vegetables— we offer a modern spin, showcasing braised, grilled, and fried meat (and vegetarian!) options with a combination of savoury sauces and fresh cucumber, pickled carrots, and cilantro.

What’s Banh Mi?

Banh Mi Boys first opened its doors to Toronto in 2011. Working out of a small mom-and-pop shop at Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue, three brothers armed with history and knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine began offering savoury hot meats in perfectly-toasted baguettes. It wasn’t long before word-of-mouth got around and what had initially started as a slow-moving venture led to bustling and eager line-up’s out the door.

In 2013, following the successful launch of our flagship location, Banh Mi Boys opened its second restaurant. Following suit with the same menu of Vietnamese Banh Mi, Chinese Steamed Bao’s and Korean-inspired Taco’s, the demand for the modern Banh Mi continued to escalate, naturally paving the way for our third and fourth locations in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

It was only a matter of time before our stores could no longer individually handle the increase in demand. With the brothers’ history of working and managing large-scale food production, we built and equipped our own commissary kitchen – allowing us to continue to develop our food in-house with the same integral and high-quality standards you’re used to.

We believe in sharing the passion that created this unique restaurant with the world. At Banh Mi Boys, we will always aim to provide each customer with excellent service and affordable, high-quality meals without compromise. We believe that integrity, passion, and teamwork lead our business forward – from our production line to our in-house service.

I love BMB and have no reservations about it. They have astounding consistency and amazing value for the quality and freshness of the food they offer. Each bite has about everything I would hope for.

Food was excellent. Fresh and flavorful ingredients. Good selection of Bao, Banh Mi and Korean Tacos. Our favorite was the Kimchi fries, served with pulled pork. So good we had to order seconds. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

The food is incomparable to other places in my opinion. The baos are perfectly soft and provide the necessary texture. The garnishes are served in the right amount as to not overwhelm the protein. The meat is seasoned fantastically.

#1 in my heart! I probably eat here more than anywhere else in Toronto. For 6 years it’s been my fav place for lunch. The fried chicken bao and pork belly bao are my fav… Kimchi fries are a MUST with every meal!

Our Menu

While our moniker very obviously hints at what we do best – we also offer Chinese Steamed Bao’s, Korean-inspired Taco’s and revamped side dishes. We have several pork, chicken, beef and vegetarian options served a myriad of ways.

Our famous Five-Spice Pork Belly Banh Mi is tender, juicy, and packed with fusion flavors. Braised for four hours to mouth-watering perfection topped with our hoisin-based Luck sauce, finished with yellow radish, fresh cucumbers, pickled carrots, and cilantro in a toasted baguette. The Pork Belly is also available in a Steamed Bao, a generous snack-sized portion with the perfect bite every time!

Our best-selling vegetarian option is the Panko Tofu Steamed Bao. Flavourful marinated tofu crusted in panko bread crumbs and fried to golden perfection to give it the extra crunch. Topped with our homemade Miso Sauce and finished with pickled yellow radish, fresh cucumbers, pickled carrots, and cilantro – vegetarian food doesn’t get better than this.
